  1. Dear Ms. Papillon-Smith,

I am the press agent for the French-Canadian documentary “The Idiot Cycle” produced by JPS Films, which will be released on 1 October 2010.

The film is about cancer and the companies (Monsanto, AstraZeneca, BASF, Bayer, Dow Chemical, Dupont), which produces and emit chemical carcinogens and also invest in cancer treatments. Today these same companies are marketing GMO crops, which have never been tested for their carcinogenic potential. The film will be released on TV, VOD, etc. in Canada on October 1, 2010.

The film has attracted much attention, even before it’s release date.

If you are interested in interviewing the 33 year old Canadian director of the film, Emmanuelle Schick Garcia (originally from Vancouver), I’d be happy to arrange an interview. I would also be happy to send you a press copy of the movie and the press kit if you are interested in reviewing the film.

We hope that you will be interested in setting up an interview by phone, skype or email, whichever is more convienent.

    The trailer of the film:

    More information about the film:

Please feel free to contact me with any questions.

    Kind regards,
    Marie-Paule Aspe

    Love the new website,
    Keep up the good work!

  5. Development & Peace Share Lent campaignThe Catholic Church in Canada calls on Canadians to feel compassion when faced with the suffering of our brothers and sisters in Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Middle East. Through our generous donations to Development and Peace, its official international development organization, this and every Lent, we can help build a world of justice. The people of parishes across Canada know that Development and Peace is the best way to support the people of the Global South who struggle against great odds for a life of human dignity.

Bravery moves the people of Timor-Leste, who suffered decades of tyranny and are still trying to recover from their oppression, the landless of Brazil, living in stick houses covered by plastic sheets, year after year facing eviction from their meagre houses and seeing their crops destroyed yet again, and the survivors of the catastrophic Haiti earthquake of January 2010 to rise again and build lives of human dignity.

Sunday, April 10, is Solidarity Sunday, when parishes dedicate their collection to Development and Peace. Donations made by churches across Canada on this one day allow Development and Peace to support more than 200 partners in Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Middle East. Ten percent of the Share Lent collection goes to help people living in emergency situations. Canadians are also encouraged to join Share Year-Round, the monthly giving program of Development and Peace.

The breakdown of expenditures for Development and Peace is: International programs, bilateral programs and emergency relief 76%, international solidarity education 10%, governance and administration 9%, and advancement 5%. Development and Peace’s financial information is taken from the Share Lent Magazine.

  6. Dear Editors,

As a 37 year old fan and supporter of The Plant, I used to run the Career Resource Center, which is now defunct (like many of the services under the Boucher mess known as Student Services).
As I retired from Dawson in December 2010, and now work at the Atwater Liberary, I invite you to please subscribe to its newsletter at
Many of the Dawson students use the Atwater Library for various research, i.e. Some students from a religion class came in a while ago to look up the encyclopedia of Religion for a project they were doing; other students from Interior Design came by to study the historic architecture, others come to the Thursday Lunch hour presentations from writers, poets, artists, etc. etc.
I think it would be great if you would subscribe to the newsletter as you could report on various events etc. that way which you feel would be of interest to the Dawson students. You could even do a little column on this historically famous and beautiful library…..
I send love, always, to my wonderful Planters, and wish you well, always.
Nonny Rankin, former Career Resource Center librarian.

  7. I wish I could figure out another way to reach you guys.

I want to present you with the new socially responsible network, linking two very important groups of people: students seeking such things as jobs, internships, and volunteer opportunities, with socially responsible organizations and entrepreneurs. This brief explanation simply scratches the surface of what Cooperancy has to offer.

Although we are globally releasing to the press, it should be of special interest to The Plant, as one of the founders is a former Dawson College student (now at McGill). Please email me at if you’d like the press release and/or would be interested in setting up a more in-depth interview:

  8. Hello,

I was wondering if you had access to an article written by Melissa Fuller, on Feb 8th 2007, called Playing with madness?

I am a senior at the University of Kent in the UK and I am writing my thesis paper and I would really love to have access to the article to mention it in my paper as I cannot find it anywhere.

Any help would be very much appreciated,

    Thank you,

    Claire Morris
