Dawson students help the Children’s Wish Foundation by holding a fashion&talent show

The Fashion & Talent Committee will hold Dawson’s Talent and Fashion Show on May 8 at 8:00 p.m. at KoSA Arts Centre, with proceeds going to the Children’s Wish Foundation.
“I was approached at the same time for the fashion show and talent show and thought it would make the event stronger if they were held together,” Maha Haddad, Student Affairs said.
The event is being sponsored by many well-known brands such as FCUK, American Apparel, Costa Blanca and many more. It is also being sponsored by less well-known stores like The Funk, which is owned by an ex-Dawson student.
“The clothes are given by 10 stores that are sponsoring the whole show,” said Haddad. “We’re kind of promoting The Funk because he was a Dawson student and we’re letting him have a table at the show to sell T-shirts.”
The event consists of a fashion show, a talent show and an after party until 3:00 a.m. The after party will have different genres of music and Paris FZ and Simone Teti, two Dawson students, will be the event’s deejays.
“The show itself is two hours with one hour [dedicated] to fashion and one hour for talent,” said Haddad. “But we’re going to mix it up so it’s not boring with just the same thing being presented for an hour.”
“We have 10 fashion scenes and 15 talent gigs,” Dawson student organizer Linda Vanita added.
From the models to the photographers, the majority of the people involved with the show are Dawson students.
“We’re getting Dawson student photographers to take pictures of the models and they’re doing it for free,” Haddad said.
The fashion & talent show is being funded by Student Affairs and the proceeds made from selling tickets, the bake sale, and raffle tickets. There will be drinks served at student prices at the after party.
“We’re getting some money from Student Affairs but the extra expenses will be covered by the proceeds we make,” said Haddad. “After everything is paid off, the rest of the money will be donated to the Children’s Wish Foundation.”
“We expect to make a lot of money for the Children’s Wish Foundation,” said Dawson student organizer Cinduja Chandramoorthy.
“Basically, I just want everyone to have a great time, especially at the after party which will be crazy.”
Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door and they can be purchased at Student Affairs in 2E.6. For more information, visit http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=113660168645182.
