Earthquake in Afghanistan
Monday April 19th
A 5.3 magnitude earthquake killed seven people and injured 70 others in central Afghanistan early Monday morning. The quake affected three districts in the Samangan province, between the capital city of Kabul and the northern city of Mazar-i-Sharif. Villages were destroyed and rocks that have fallen from surrounding mountains blocked local roads.
Volcano Erupts in Iceland
Thursday April 15th
The Eyjafjallajokull volcano, located in Iceland, erupted at 2 a.m. last
Wednesday prompting Icelandic authorities to evacuate about 800 people from the area. The ash from the volcano forced the closure of European airports and stranded thousands of passengers around the world.
