The Disaster Corner

Twenty-six people were killed on Feb.26th following a stampede near a mosque in Timbuktu. At least 41 people were injured in the stampede, which occurred last Thursday night during the Islamic festival of Mouloud. According to a journalist at the scene, approximately 4,000 people, who were traveling to and from the mosque, had to squeeze through a narrow road because the main road was closed due to construction. The smaller road was at maximum capacity, and many of the people who died were children.
