counting down the top five best black people ever
picks by chris pike
In honor of the final week of Black History Month the Picks of The Week are dedicated to the most awesome black people I could think of.
#5 Oprah Winfrey – As much as I do not really like her and I feel like she makes people stupid (bring on the hate mail), she has done a lot for the women who watch her show and even more for the black community at large. Thanks Harpo, we are going to miss you after this season. You were pretty awesome. Bring on the era of Ellen!
#4 Barack Obama – No he is not Muslim, or Kenyan, or a socialist, or a Nazi or a horse dressed in a man suit. He is the 43rd President of the United States and he is awesome.
#3 Nelson Mandela – So let’s count off his accomplishments shall we? Spent 27 years in prison for anti-apartheid activities, 250 awards won over four decades including a Nobel Peace Prize, President of South Africa from 1994 to 1999, and recently had July 18 named Mandela day by the United Nations. Yup, he is awesome.
#2 Rosa Parks – Not giving up her bus seat to a white person was the catalyst for the Montgomery bus boycotts, which arguably led to the Civil Rights Movement in the United States. She is pretty damn awesome if you ask me.
#1 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. – Picks of The Week doesn’t have enough room to write all the reasons why MLK is the most awesome person on this list. You know he is awesome and I know he is awesome.
